The Florida Society Sons of the American Revolution is constructing a monument in Pompano Beach, Florida, commemorating the first amphibious assault landing by Continental Marines, which occurred during the Revolutionary War on 3-4 March 1776, just a few short months after the marines were formed on 10 November 1775.

The assault occurred on New Providence Island in the Bahamas, capturing both Fort Nassau and Fort Montagu.

The monument will be at the closest logical location in the United States to the actual landing site.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for March 7, 2026, to celebrate the 250th anniversary of this historic military operation, which resulted in the capture of the British governor, guns, powder, vessels, and other logistical supplies being taken by Continental Marines and Sailors during the raid.
