Mississippi State Society Standing Committees


YOUTH RECOGNITION COMMITTEES are those committees that deal with the annual recognition of individual youth accomplishments.


Elementary Poster Committee


This youth activity recognizes elementary students who construct a poster commemorating patriotism &/or the Revolutionary War per the rules set by the NSSAR.  The posters are shown at the Annual Meeting and a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winner is recognized.


The Deadline for each chapter is Nov 15.
The MS State Deadline is February 1.

Middle School Brochure Committee




The Deadline for each chapter is Nov 15.
The MS State Deadline is February 1.

Knight Essay Committee


This youth activity recognizes young writers who construct a specific patriotic essay per the rules set by the NSSAR.  Through Chapter competitions, one State winner is chosen each year at the Annual Meeting.  This committee is charged with soliciting candidates for this contest.

The Deadline for each chapter is Nov 15.
The MS State Deadline is February 1.

Rumbaugh Orations Committee


This youth activity recognizes young orators who construct and deliver a specific patriotic oration per the rules set by the NSSAR.  Through Chapter competitions, one State winner is chosen each year at the Annual Meeting.  This committee is charged with soliciting candidates for this contest.

The Deadline for each chapter is Nov 15.
The MS State Deadline is February 1.

Eagle Scout Committee


This committee is charged with recognizing all Scouts who obtain the rank of Eagle during the year.  A certificate is presented to each individual.  This committee is also charged to work with BSA officials and local MS SAR Chapters to present their choice of one Eagle Scout, per the rules set by the NSSAR, to receive the annual Eagle Scout Award at the Annual Meeting.

The Deadline for each chapter is Nov 15.
The MS State Deadline is February 1.

JROTC/ROTC Committee


This committee assists the one ROTC and 87 JROTC commanders throughout the state who have chosen to present outstanding cadets with one of the SAR JROTC/ROTC awards. This committee also selects one cadet, based on submissions, for the Outstanding JROTC Cadet. This cadet may then be sent to National to compete.

The Deadline for each chapter is Nov 15.
The MS State Deadline is February 1.

History Teacher Award Committee

Through School District leaders, School Principals, Parent Organizations, or Chapter knowledge, an outstanding history teacher is chosen for this presentation at the Annual Meeting per rules set by the NSSAR.
